We live in Montpelier, Idaho which is included in the Bear Lake Valley. I was raised in Laketown, Utah. We own property on the South end of the Lake. Bear Lake has been important to me and my family all of my life. WE are very concerned about the care and protection of the Lake. My first thought is that the State of Ifsho shoule be included in your comprehensive plan for the Lake because it involves both states. There needs to be consistant and enforced rules that govern the entire body of water.
My major concern is pollution of the water due to no sewer on the Idaho East side. I talked to a home owner and asked her about her sewage protection. She said and I quote" Our septic tank is beneath our tennis court and the contractor said that it would last for ever." This means that the tank has holes drilled in the bottom to drain into the Lake. There are more than a hundred homes along those several miles and more being built. Thsi sewer project should include the camping on North Beach. It has only a few rest rooms with thousands of users. Boise is so far from our area that pressure needs to be brought from poserful organizations to put this sewer line in place.
There needs to be control of the Lake level to accomidate recreatiion and still give the minimum needed for the irragators. It would be nice to not have to hike thousands of yards to get to the water.
We strongly protest any reservoir that would affect the ground water and springs that feed into the Lake. Such another reservoir is being proposed by the Symbiotics.
Another concern is the big developments that are going up on the hills around the Lake. Where is their Lake access going to be for the hundreds that these developers predict will come?
Your attention to these concerns and all other valid ones will be appreciated by the hundreds that use our beloved Bear Lake.
Thank you.
